FAQ
Are we accepting new family practice patients? »We realize that there is a great need for family doctors and medical practitioners in Sault Ste. Marie. At this time our only family doctor already has a full practice and is not accepting new patients.
However, we are actively recruiting to try to help meet this need, and hope soon to announce the addition of more family practitioners. In the meantime, we hope you find the services at the walk-in clinic helpful.
Are we hiring? How do I submit my application? »Yes. We are in the process of hiring for RPN and Receptionist/Clerical positions. Please send your resume to information@saultcare.ca. Further information/applications to be posted soon. Please check back!
Can I go to the clinic if I have a cut/laceration that might need stitches? »Yes. We will provide suturing/care for minor lacerations.
Can I get a doctor’s note for missed work/school? »Yes. However, doctor’s notes are not covered by OHIP services, and a fee will be charged for the note.
Can I use the walk-in clinic even if I have a family doctor? »Yes, the walk-in clinic is open to everyone with minor acute concerns. However, we would ask that you follow up with your family physician for your prescription renewal.
Can I get an X-ray at the clinic? »No, for non urgent X-rays and other imaging services patients will be referred to other sites. For urgent cases patients will be sent to the emergency department.
Can I get my immunizations updated? »Yes. Please remember to always bring your immunization record, as well as any documentation from school/work that is requesting the immunizations.
What if I need Blood work done, where do I go? »If blood work is ordered by the physician, a requisition will be given to you to have the blood work done at one of the outside labs. Conveniently, LifeLabs is located just down the hall in the Cambrian Mall!
What is a “Patient Pager”? »A “patient pager” is a small device that you will be given if our wait times for the clinic are longer than expected. When it comes close to the time for your visit with the physician, you will be “paged” back to the clinic. This will allow you to walk around the mall and shop while waiting for your appointment. We know your time is important and hope this tool will allow you to make best of your time and visit to our clinic!
Why do we want you to bring your medication list with you at all visits? »Using our state of the art EMR system, we want to make sure we update your records of any changes to your medications. This allows us to prescribe appropriate medications and be sure that they do not interact with medications you are currently taking. It is always good to have a list of your medications including herbal or natural/homeopathic medication in your wallet/purse for future use. Thanks!
Walk-In Services Available
Unscheduled visits:
The Walkin-in clinic will be available to everyone for non-emergency minor care.
The visits will be based on first-come first-served basis.
In order to minimize wait time; we would
encourage our patients to present with one or maximum two issues per visit.
We would be happy to deal with your other concerns during your future
visits.
Prescription renewal clinic:
We do not refill sedatives and narcotics; patients
have to see their regular physicians who normally prescribe their sedative
and narcotics for chronic use.
Work related medicals:
We do not do disability assessments and forms. Such medicals should be done through
appropriate WSIB physicians and services.
Please be advised that work related medicals are not covered by provincial
insurance (OHIP). Patients will be charged appropriate fees for this
service.
